In January 2006, Fortune, a prominent business magazine, published its annual list of the '100 Best Companies to Work For' in the United States. Genentech Inc. (Genentech), a major biotechnology (biotech) company, was ranked number one on the list. It was the first time that Genentech had been ranked first on the list, although it had featured on it for seven consecutive years since 1999.
