This book, authored by one of India's most senior and experienced remote sensing experts, covers the gamut of the technology and applications of remote sensing. it is an attempt to present the fundamental concepts covering various stages of remote sensing from data collection to end utilization, in a manner which can be appreciated by the discipline in which he/she has graduated. The book also provides an Indian perspective on remote sensing technology and applications by bringing to the fore the way the Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) programme has developed and the unique applications of the technology in India. It also contains a comprehensive bibliography and references as well as a list of useful websites for advanced reading and specialized references on remote sensing. The second edition has major additions in Chapter 11, dealing with the applications of remote sensing. Four more themes have been added. Some basic concepts of advanced data classification techniques have been added in Chapter 10. The latest advancement in IRS series has also been reflected. In order to benefit those who are familiarizing themselves with the subject for the first time, a list of acronyms and abbreviations has been added. Contents: Foreword / Preface to the Second Edition / Preface to the First Edition / Introduction / Electromagnetic Radiation / Fundamentals of Radiometry / Physical Basis of Signatures / Remote Sensors-An Overview / Optical-Infrared Sensors / Microwave Sensors / Platform / Data Reception and Data Products / Data Analysis / Application of Remote Sensing for Earth Resource Management / Geographical Information System (GIS) / Appendices / References / Index.
