The aim of this project is to model, simulate and verify the results through experimental model. The four basic components that are used to accomplish this job are Boiler, Condenser, Slider Crank Mechanism and Pump. Thermocouples and Static pressure gauge are used to monitor temperature and pressure. A boiler (modified cooker) produces the wet steam at 2.2 bar., then it runs the slider crank mechanism at about 60 rpm, which then coupled with a generator, and hence eventually we have electrical power. For producing the steam natural gas is used. The steam from the Slider Crank mechanism is condensed, via the condenser, and is pumped to the water reservoir. The data from the sensors (thermocouples) is acquired via the data acquisition card and at different pressures and temperatures. This data is compared with the designed values to validate the simulated result. This gives an understanding to the students regarding the steam power plant’s working (even though we have not used a turbine). This project is just a starting step towards making of steam models, but a lot has to be done in the area.
