Summary, etc. | Reading and responding to person’s written text is vital because their writing gives evidence of using language imaginatively and constructively to make meaning using the conventions of writing at word, sentence and text level. In addition, if a computer is asked to do the same job, it would perhaps need much more effort and skill. Target setting - One of the main purposes of marking writing once it has been completed, is to asses how far curriculum and individual targets have been met. Keeping this in mind, we propose to design computer based testing software “Auto Text Marker (ATM)” This software will take any typed text as an input, and based on that text, the software will check and mark it using Standard English language rules. The software will be standard for subjects like English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics etc. Text may include English paragraphs, numerical, mathematical solutions etc. Our focus will be on English language only. More work will be done in the future on rest of the modules. For English module, the software will check the text for Grammar (Sentence structure (Tenses), Word choice), Organization & Effect (length of the text), Spell-check, and Vocabulary. The software will mark the text according to a proper criteria for e.g. if the text entered has 5 Grammar mistakes and 5 spelling mistakes, the software will set a weight age for these mistakes between 0 – 100 and then calculate the score by a defined formula and display the result analysis. |
