CNC lathe machine - Islamabad Department of Mechatronics Engineering (Air University Main Campus) 2013 - 78p. CD
Lathe machine is a very essential part of the machining industry and is widely used to manufacture parts for high precision machines including aircrafts, cars, military and medical equipment. The conventional Lathe machine is operated manually which means that the finish cannot be perfect and many human errors arise. Even the most skilled personnel cannot achieve the high precision required for manufacturing such parts. Our aim was to transform a manually operated conventional Lathe machine to a Computerized Numerically Controlled (CNC) machine. This project is suitable for working in industrial conditions and can provide high level of accuracy. The objective of this project was to make a CNC machine suitable for small scale industry with the minimal budget possible as CNC machines usually cost a lot. This machine is capable of performing multiple machining operations such as facing, turning, taper turning and threading. Motor selection was an essential part of this project and motors were selected through torque calculations required for machining. This machine operates on two (X and Z) axes but there is a scope for increasing the number of axes. All calculations for this project are done keeping soft metals in mind.
